I've run the see thru glass since 2012 when I finished my off-frame. Never a leak regardless of fuel used. I prefer to see how dirty it is vs the metal (can't see what's inside ) or the plastic which seems to be getting thinner materiel.

Cut the Cut the bottom out at the joint. It is plastic welded together, you can buy the bottom filter, refill cannister with fish tank charcoal. Other filter matirial is from the petstore too. Note the sequnce of the filter material when you take it apart. Really easy to do.
The 396 designation remained in the Chevelles as a name since GM did not want to ruin a good thing with the name. Although it grew to 402 the name 396 was held till the end as stated above.
It doesn't matter what the capacity is, fill the radiator to the neck, then fill the coolant return bottle to the cold fill line. Warm it up add coolant IAW coolant bottle mark. This is not rocket science so don't make it so, it isn't. Good Luck
