    Olds 358 build

Well, Mark sent me one of his tunes, definitely made it better. I finally got my tune loaded on a SD card to enail to him. Funny how a day off and new SD card, everything goes smoother. I also figured out where to load his tunes in the Holley files. Doimg sh*t after work never goes well. Loaded...

    Best olds 350 starter

I went with this one, super compact, even smaller than the 9510. I had to trim the electrical connection studs to clear my current headers. I think moving the tube to clear the mount caused my issue...

Well, I have been running the base Holley Terminator X Max tune with much more timing and the IAC at 8 rather than 40 percent. The TPS works flawlessly but goes massively lean on tip in and stalls when cold from stop signs. I am getting Cutlassefi to do a custom tune with better less generic...

    Olds 358 build

Well this thing has fought me tooth and nail but is now running and driving! I changed the oil to 10W30 VR1 with 1 liter of 20W50 for good measure. I start it and the belt started walking on the pulley! I guess it started wobbling and almost ate the belt. Apparently the bearing was going out on...

how to id high compression olds 350 eng

My understanding is the 330 and 350 valve size was 1.87" intake and 1.56 exhaust except the W31 1.995 or 2" intake and 1.625" exhaust. The #8 are 1.87" intake and 1.625" exhaust. The 72 7A heads may be the same. The 3A are crack prone and have an OK intake port with 1.87" valves. The small 1.5"...

    Olds 358 build

Here is another one, betting 8 to 1 with maybe a stock or the 204/214 cam. It would be fun with 87 octane with a ton of part throttle timing. Iron headed Olds V8 like a lot of timing, these motors prove it.

how to id high compression olds 350 eng

The #6 heads have the same 1.56" exhaust valve as most Olds 350 heads. I measured 2.07" intake valves, added by the previous owner but reused the stock measured 1.56" exhaust valve on my current #6 heads. Aren't the 7 or 7A a large exhaust valve? The #8 has a 1.625" exhaust valve but the bowl is...

    Olds 358 build

Well, I forgot to do something important. Yeah, the TPS Wizard reset fixed it! Don't know why I didn't try it last night, used to nothing but road blocks on this build, I guess. 0 to 100% and instant TPS movement. This sensor is available cheap on Amazon from multiple sellers, so I will pick up...

Well, I think this Speedmaster throttle body is BS. So I got a BMW TPS sensor. The 8mm D head fits the shaft perfectly bolts in the stock holes but the 122 degree sweep isn't enough. To get 0% at idle, it puts it at 70% WOT. For 100% WOT, at 26%. Looks like I am buying the Edelbrock throttle...

Absolutely correct. If any of the spacers are missing, it ends up crooked.

Is the rear brace attached at the back of the power steering bolted to the block?

Fuel leak is fixed, apparently an O ring is handy to seal the fuel rail. Well, I got my Ford TPS for the Speedmaster throttle body. It works, sort of. It has less of a lag in the throttle but only gets 60 percent TPS, no matter how I adjust it, including slotting the TPS mounting holes. The...

    Olds 358 build

Well, I still have a minor leak at the back rail, tightened it more, don't want it any tighter. One of the rails got a bit of a ding in shipping from Mark. Hopefully it sealed up this time. I may pull it and put in a new O ring or different fitting. But it ran and drove across town, that is...

    Olds 358 build

Ok, so this Speedmaster throttle body has been giving me fits. The LS TPS doesn't have the right sweep and doesn't bolt on anyways. I reordered the Ford TPS since I damaged the tang in the one I had, only a $30 sensor. I cut off the D out of the defective new Speedmaster sensor so the arm won't...

    78 cutlass W-31 build

Great score on the headers. Is the JM-14 cam new? I might consider it but there is a guy on Classic Olds who was considering a 307 cam swap. I might consider it, looks slightly smaller than the generic 204/214 cam. I assume that 69 400 4 spd cam is basically the W30 cam, bit more duration and...

    78 cutlass W-31 build

That's pretty awesome. Considering I even ran into an issue with 330 crank with an automatic torque converter, not a bad idea. It is set up for a manual transmission, has a bushing but the 330 crank has a smaller ID than other SB iron cranks.

    Olds 358 build

Well, I picked up two new fuel pressure sensors. The one in there was reading 111 psi. I also have a gauge coming. I tried both replacements, one read 28/29 psi, the other 31/32 psi. The oil pressure sensor is the same sensor. It reads within 5 psi, reading lower than the gauge, 70 cold and 28...
