But the main reason everyone is so pro 5.3 is marketing. GM, the aftermarket, and all those car mags are doing a fine job brainwashing car guys that they need to spend big bucks on LS conversions to make any HP. Everyone knows you need fancy EFI, computers, direct coil...
Have you bought anything japc74?
I say put a 5.3 in and race the car. Enjoy it. Turbo it when you have the money. One step at a time.
I'm in the same boat. My car's stock & I want it to go like hell. I bought a high mileage 5.3 and a 4L80E. Now i'm looking for a Mustang 8.8" rear end...

I picked up a Craigslist '03 5.3 with 220,000 miles for $350
Motor, harness, computer
Found a Craigslist 4L80E for $250
For reliability, power potential, drivability LS wins. Might be a pain to put in my '82 but I'll deal with it.

Pretty cheap power considering all the variables - old school vs new school.
I don't know sbc or LS but I want drivability, fuel milage & power = Turbo for the win !
I appreciate the pics guys. I'm a ways off before I need to worry about this issue but its Good to know we have supporting vendors with custumer service & reasonable prices.
I like the seats, they look very comfortable. If I lived there I could ski very often & not tire of it. Nice Pictures. In the summertime it must be wonderful. Where I live its very flat & very few trees.
